Life is, after all, what happens while we're making plans.. Enjoy your rescued book; rediscovering the original version is what I suspected & am glad you're doing. Share water with Valentine & wine with Jubal for me!

I'm reading the original text in a version printed in 1987, and rescued by me from a "Friends of" sale at my local library. I didn't know about an uncut version. At 400+ pages, the cut version serves me well.

And of course I'm still striving---just not in a regimented way.

"Yesterday, everybody smoked his last cigar, took his last drink, and swore his last oath. Today, we are a pious and exemplary community. Thirty days from now, we shall have cast our reformation to the winds and gone to cutting our ancient shortcomings considerably shorter than ever...

New Year's is a harmless annual institution, of no particular use to anybody save as a scapegoat for promiscuous drunks, and friendly calls, and humbug resolutions, and we wish you to enjoy it with a looseness suited to the greatness of the occasion."

Sister,
I so admire your way with words, and so true they are...

I never make resolutions for a new year either...

I try to accomplish things the entire year, day by day, week by week...Not just because a calendar has flipped a page...

If something needs fixing, why wait for a new year to fix it? Whether it's you or something else that's broken...

When you set such lofty unattainable goals for yourself, you're bound to fail... It's inevitable...

Do small things every day, things that matter to you and the people around you...

So many times I see people make huge long lists of things they're either going to do, or not do in the coming new year, and time after time, they berate themselves for not being able to follow through...

Your post was timely and succinct... Do what you can when you can, why put off until tomorrow what you can accomplish today!? Excellent post!

Oh, by the way, I see you've been faerie kissed, that's what I was trying to send you! LOL

Cheers and another round of latte for the troops...

Peace and white light always,
Nick

Don't fix what's not broken & don't wait to fix what is.. It's all those little things that add up to a greater good; change, if needed, is found cumulatively. Each action has its impact & it's no small one your encouragement has on me! LOVE the feedback!!
I suspected you were in on the faerie kissing!? THANK YOU!!!
With exactly two weeks til your New Year, I'm excited to be part of it & desperately hope we can celebrate in person sometime soon! Also, by all means, please do provide any punctuation I may be lacking..

I just hope the rest of our family & my extended one follows suit but using the internet, hopefully my blog especially, to be/stay connected. DO use your journal, perhaps even just monthly. I can hardly wait & love you too!!! <3

"Whatever your circumstances, however you got there, grab hold of what's working & let go of what's not, then take hold of what's left!" ~ Dorian Rhodes

What GREAT words for this time of the year; 'my' personal New Year, as you so eloquently stated. I took them from your 'CHRISTmastime’ post, (I think I added the exclamation mark @ the end! Hope that's OK!) & I plan to print them out & put them up somewhere so I can read them every day!!!

I believe in our pact to keep in touch, mainly through your blog, chats, emails, & possibly my journal, which I plan to use!!! I'll keep you posted on that plan!
I'm all for lack of failure, just don't stop striving!? Which reminds me, are you reading the original version or the uncut edition? As many times as I have read the first, I've yet to tackle the latter. Waiting is..

I'm with what's his name....no setting myself up to fail.

Instead I started the year by re-reading Stranger in a Strange Land....just to get a reality check on my big influencer. Even though it's a bit dated in some ways, in the important make-yourself-think way, it's still brilliant.

Jim likes to downplay the New Year, and says every day is the start of a new year. Me, however, I love January 1st. It's another chance for me to resolve to stop doing stupid things like biting my fingernails. Maybe this will actually be the year!

Combining your approaches gives goals inspired by the new year better odds since each new day is a new beginning! So, good luck leaving those fingernails alone: try, try again.. I know you'll channel that energy elsewhere & find something more constructive to do with your hands.
